Molybdenum Information
Molybdenum is a little-known, though essential, trace mineral that is vital in regulating the pH balance in the body, which in turn, increases the oxygen level and nitrogen metabolism, thereby enhancing the body's ability to burn fat. This mineral is in the liver, bones, and kidneys. Beans, beef liver, cereal grains, dark green leafy vegetables, legumes, and peas are all good sources of Molybdenum.

Molybdenum occurs as a cofactor bound to major enzymes involved in the metabolism process. Molybdenum is necessary for the functioning of the enzyme xanthine oxidase that is involved in Iron metabolism and also in the production of uric acid (a waste product found in the blood and urine). Molybdenum may reduce the risk of reactive asthma attacks. The sufficient amount of Molybdenum can be found in a general multi-vitamin and mineral supplement.

Molybdenum Uses

Molybdenum supports bone growth and strengthening of the teeth. This mineral is necessary for the functioning of the enzyme xanthine oxidase, that is involved in iron metabolism and also in the production of uric acid, which is a waste product found in the blood and urine. It is also needed for normal sexual functioning in the male. Molybdenum helps detoxify the body of excess copper, and preliminary studies show it is also helpful in reducing the risk of asthma attacks.

Some deficiency signs that may appear are inadequate uric acid production, decreased reproductive capacity of males, and increased susceptibility to Dental Caries.

Molybdenum Dosage Information
There is no standard recommended dosage, but it is believed that Molybdenum is relatively safe to take less than 15 mg per day. For best results, read and follow product label directions, and/or consult with your physician regarding your dietary needs.
