Vitamin A allows a person to have overall good health. A lack of vitamin A can cause skin disorders, a decrease in quality of vision or night blindness. Vitamin A helps with vision, immune system, cancer, epithelial cell, pregnancy and anti-infection.

Vitamin A can be found in green vegetables like, broccoli, kale, asparagus, spinach, green beans, peas, beef, calf, chicken liver, eggs, as well as dairy products.


Vitamin A Dosage
The recommended daily allowance of vitamin A is 2,670 International Units. 1 mcg RE is equal to 3.33 International units. Males (age 11+) have a recommended daily allowance of 1,000 RE and in females (age 11+) it is 800 RE. Pregnant women should take Vitamin A at the level of 8,000 and in the form of beta-carotene. This level is not considered toxic. However, pregnant women taking more than 5,000 UI/day should not do so without a physician’s recommendation and supervision. Nursing mothers included.



Vitamin A Safety
Pregnant women taking high volumes of Vitamin A should be careful because it can cause birth defects. Toxicity symptoms can appear anywhere from low to high dosage as it depends on the individual. Symptoms may occur as follows: itchiness, irritability, dizziness, menstrual problems, and vomiting. Possible long-term effects that you should be aware of are as follows: hair loss, bone and muscle pain, liver damage, and headaches.
