Vitamin B2 Information
Vitamin B2 is known as Riboflavin, a water soluble vitamin. This water soluble vitamin has to be replenished everyday just to maintain energy and red blood cell reproduction. It enhances the first step process in the breaking down of glucose and fatty acids. Vitamin B2 also reinforces the immune system by supporting the antibody reserves.



Vitamin B2 Uses
Vitamin B2 is used to treat migraine headaches, cataracts, certain skin disorders, anemia and rheumatoid arthritis. It used in baby foods, breakfast cereals, pastas, sauces, fruit drinks, processed cheese and some energy drinks. Vitamin B2 can be found in almonds, organ meats, whole grains, wild rice, mushrooms, yogurt, eggs, broccoli, and spinach. Recently has been shown to slow or stop progression of keratoconus (corneal disorder).



Vitamin B2 Dosage
Vitamin B2 requirement must be equal to total energy needs and metabolism. The recommended daily allowance for adult men is 1.7 mg/day and 1.3 for adult women. Multi-vitamins usually provide the recommend dosage. However, when pregnant the requirement is an additional .3mg per day and those that are lactating require an additional .5 mg per day.



Vitamin B2 Safety
There is no known toxicity to riboflavin because vitamin b2 is water soluble. However, side effects may occur with taking high dosages. Such as itching, numbness, sensitive to light, burning or prickling sensations, or yellow orange urine.
